Their design began in 1944 with collaboration between Emeco and ALCOA to develop a seaworthy chair for military use. ALCOA's scientists and Navy engineers consulted with Emeco to produce this chair in Emeco's Hanover, PA workshops where they are still made today. Timeless. Chairs admired today – and indefinitely. DESIGNER: Philippe Starck

His father, an inventor and aeronautic engineer, gave the young Philippe Starck the desire to create and the capacity to dream. Several years and several prototypes later, he was commissioned to work for President François Mitterrand. This was also when he began designing furniture for leading Italian and international firms. Philippe Starck said: "Working with Emeco has allowed me to use a recycled material and transform it into something that never needs to be discarded - a tireless and unbreakable chair to use and enjoy for a lifetime.
