Luigi Sartori, founded in 1882, was the first Italian company to manufacture handmade design carpets in countries where traditional production techniques existed for centuries.

Working with local suppliers proved unsuccessful because the market demanded shorter production time and refined workmanship in the execution of these products. To meet these demands, Sartori decided to establish its own manufacturing organization headed by Italian managers.

The wool is from Iran, Afghanistan and New Zealand depending of use and availability. The colours are natural and extracted from leaves, roots and plants with techniques dating back centuries. It is hand spun, the results of which are varied shades of the same colour making it vibrant and unique. Different work techniques like looping, relief and weaving are applied on various thickness.

Paolo Sartori is head designer of the design centre and closely follows Italian furniture trends designing new pieces and colours that fi¬t into the constant evolution of lifestyle. At the present time Sartori is creating carpets inspired by the natural colour of sheep’s wool. Traditional work techniques are still being used in this current fashion of “non design” carpet.

All carpets are labelled “Design in Italy” on the back.
